Technology overviews, landscaping

Technology overviews give a picture of patents in previously defined area of products or processes. This information can support business development or R&D activities. Knowledge of the patent postition of competitors, suppliers or customers can also be relevant for e.g. marketing purposes.

Statistical analysis with graphical display of the results is nowadays known as “landscaping”. A “patent landscape” is a set of graphs from which conclusion can be drawn upon patenting activity in different countries, patenting policies of large or small companies, patenting of processes or products or specific product/market combinations.
